Exeter Lions 6-a-side - Sponsored by Shine Holidays

Shine Holidays are proud to announce our sponsorship of the upcoming Exeter Lions FC 6-a-side competition in support of this years 2010 Exeter Pride.

Exeter Lions FC

The Exeter Lions formed in February 2009 when half a dozen-or-so hardy souls met up for a kick-about at Exeter University Sports Centre and they have not looked back since! .

Why start an LGBT-friendly club?

Homophobia is still prevalent in male dominated team sports like football and it can be quite intimidating for lgbt people. The reason for starting the club was to provide gay men and women in throughout Devon with an opportunity to play football in a non-judgemental and friendly environment. At the same time, they are keen to use the football club as a springboard to challenge homophobic attitudes. Linking in with the Justin Campaign, they are planning on going into schools and colleges to hold workshops and discussion groups which might help to breakdown the stigma and preconceptions associated with homosexuality in sport.

Exeter Gay Pride

Exeter Pride is led by volunteers from the local community who want to shape this event into something that they and the city will enjoy and be proud of. The Exeter LGBT Pride Committee is currently working towards making Exeter LGBT Pride 2010 even bigger and better than 2009's History Pride event with more events and activities in the run up to Pride and on the day itself including a PRIDE PARADE.
All of the events throughtout the day are free - as we want everyone to have the opportuntity to enjoy the day.
The Committee for 2010 are focusing the event on having Pride in our City and our City having pride in the LGBT Communities here. Exeter LGBT Pride is an independent project of The Intercom Trust - a lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans community charity providing resources across Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Somerset. Intercom holds Exeter LGBT Pride in trust for the communities who run it.
